Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Many of us have
lives that seem constantly hectic, busy and stressful.
Often we may feel that we do not have the time or the
energy to take the exercise we need and we may suffer with
difficult thoughts and painful emotions. The struggle with
our own hectic lives, pain and illness, or the struggle
with caring for our loved ones, can result in us feeling
stress for much of the time as we lose our natural ability
to relax deeply.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a self-help
method of relaxation which can help us restore our ability
to relax. It can also help us to maintain our well being
and live more fulfilling lives. We can learn various
relaxation methods which help us to choose how we react to
stressful situations and painful feelings rather than
automatically feeling overwhelmed or bogged down by them.
By choosing how we react to our thoughts and feelings we
can rediscover what is important to us, increase our
confidence in our own abilities and have the strength to
face the every day challenges of our busy lives.
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction classes focus on
changing our response to stress through teaching greater
awareness of our body, mind, emotions and breathing. The
class includes:
- healthy breathing
- gentle exercise suitable for all ages and levels of
fitness
- relaxation techniques including meditation
There are three different forms of course to choose
from:
an eight-week 'living well
with stress' course;
a ten week 'living well with pain and illness' course;
a simple relaxation group.
